Safari Pacific MX2 Build

Using a sturdy metal table I square up the guard and make cut marks.

if you don't mind, could you get the dimensions on your fab table? I want to build one in the future and i'd like one about that size.

wow nicee i love it, can we get some interior pics?

Thanks! I haven't worked on the interior yet. Still need to figure out what I'm going to do with the panels.

Sure. I'll have to head out the the shop and measure them. I don't remember off hand.

Back to the body work. The last update on this was with someone else doing the work. Turns out the guy had no idea what he was doing.
So I've decided I couldn't do much worse and attempted to salvage what I could.
Here I point out the body line that doesn't align with the bed.

With a sanding block I start removing the excess material.

My friend Tim came over to give me a hand taking the truck apart while I start the body work.
First the rear bumper swing arm gets removed.

160.jpg

Then the bumper itself.

161.jpg

The bed gets pulled of onto a hydraulic lift. This is so I can raise and lower the bed while working on it.

162.jpg

And then, more sanding.

163.jpg

164.jpg

After the sides get sanded down I work on the roof.

165.jpg

The next day I sand blasted all the primer off of the bed.

166.jpg

Then I ground all the surrounding areas clean.

167.jpg

Both sides of the bed get cleaned up and ready for body filler.

168.jpg

Back to the cab, I try to work on the body lines.

169.jpg

Later on Wil (of Sierra Expeditions) and Corbin (of Zebra Sports) came over to give me a hand.
As you can see by the light green spots there were tons of pin holes in the last guys job.

that sucks the last guy didnt know what he was doing, i wouldnt give him a dime. looks like your doing a good job by yourself though

wow. it took me almost 2 hours to read the 18 pages of posts (well worth it) and man am i impressed. i hope once you get this project "done" you can fully enjoy it and i'm sure im not the only one getting a lot of ideas from this! real great work, very impressive. i've always wanted to design a quad cab gen 1 and this has been a big inspiration to go at it!
thumbs FREAKIN UP DUDE!

Thanks guys!!!

Some more.....

Wil continued working on patching, then smoothing out the holes in the roof.

172.jpg

173.jpg

Then I added body filler to the welded seams on the bed.

174.jpg

And Wil did some more sanding.

And then I did some sanding. Seems to be a pattern.

176.jpg

The next day I snapped a photo of the roughed out bed body filler and the roof.

177.jpg

178.jpg

Wil took a turn at working on the bed seams with a drill and cleaning wheel.

179.jpg

Turns out Wil has a nack for fixing dents in sheet metal.

180.jpg

He fixed a pretty bad dent below my tail light.

184.jpg

While that was going on I began dismantling the doors, windows and all.

181.jpg

Then I removed the front lights and grill.

182.jpg

Next I pulled off the fenders.

183.jpg

Armed with a drill and sanding pad, Wil cleaned up the weld line for the roof.

185.jpg

Skipping the monotonous steps of applying body filler then sanding it off, we come to the finished work.

186.jpg

187.jpg

Then I find another pinhole, so I fill it in.

188.jpg

A high shot of the truck shows the roof and the many hole patches.
