Making progress...

If you blow the picture up you can see where i have the trash can, and the plywood/cardboard propped to the right side of the pic, thats where the wall is going to be built to partition it off, im also going to enclose the celing.

Once the celing is enclosed im hanging flourescent style LED lights as well as wiring in many more plugs (currently there is 1)

Ive decided on a retractable hose reel as well as hanging cord reel, im lazy about picking up so im making this as easy as possible. Im also getting a rolling cart to mount a toolbox on so theres no excuse for tools not to be put away.

Its not huge, but itll be big enough for me. All that shit (table, etc) you see on the left side of the pic will be gone as well.

Comments, suggestions? Im all ears. I want it to be functional as possible.

EDIT.....
Whats a good concrete cleaner for a power washer? It dont need to be perfect but id like to try and get it somewhat clean.

Would you like some lightbulbs? Seems like your lacking in lightbulbs...

Any degreaser will work good on concrete floors. Get an old push broom and use that to rub the degreaser in then spray off with a garden hose. I love the led style fluorescent lights. They are crazy bright and don't draw much power. 2 of those lights will light that shop but 4 would give you better lighting. They are $20 at Walmart. As for the table.... Have you looked into building a folding table. One that mounts to the wall but can fold down if needed. Theres tons of ideas on pinterest for garage stuff. Check it out sometime and it will give you tons of ideas.

4' LED lights are awesome bang per buck for lighting. I have filled my little hut I call a shop with them and I love it.

As for the floor... the 2.9 is just going to make a mess on it anyway. I wouldn't fuss over it too much. :icon_thumby:

Seriously though, I just sweep mine. Floor dry oil spills and sweep it up when its ready.

Theres alot of oil and shit on the floor now. Just wanted to give it a good washin before i started building.

The barn is 30 feet deep, so my work bench and things are going to go on the wall oppisite of the door, id like to keep the sides clear of as much as possible because i do have alot more depth then width.

...and yes i was going to go with 4500lumen led's...4 of them. You think 6 would be overkill?

I have hid lights, cost a fortune to run electricity wise but brighter than LED. I think my 40x20 shop has 5,000 watts of lighting and taked a full 5 minutes for the bulbs to warm up. They throw off some damn heat too. Nice winter addition.

I dont need nothin quite that bright lol. And the 125,000 BTU salamander im thinkin of getting shoupd deal witb heat just fine.

Really depends on how they are placed.

I have two 4' LED's in mine and two 4' florescents that are still working good yet. I also have a LED worklight on the ceiling too.

My problem is I have a low ceiling and when the roll up door is open and the hood is up most of anything that would shine on the engine is blocked, so I added the worklight aimed at the engine off to the side of the roll up door.

4 would be plenty for that size. a retractable work light wouldn't be a bad idea for them under the hood situations when you need extra light. Those LED lights are BRIGHT AF though. I literally have 1 4 footer in my garage (single car garage) and it lights it great. 4 would be perfect and would draw much less power than 1/4 of dirtmans HID's..... No one likes big electric bills but if you like wasting money on electric bills then have at it.

My suggestion would be... if you think it will bee big enough... make it a bit bigger.

Then make it even bigger then that. Seriously... you will acquire more tools and shelves...

I would be searching used wall cabinets... they take zero floor space

Storage....
Filing cabinets are great for storage. They are built to take heavy weight, and lots of times you can pick them up for free. The 2 drawer ones are great for use as legs for a bowling alley top or whatever cheap cabinet top you can scavenge. I had some 1/8" steel plate bent up to fit over two 2" x 12" lumber. Made a great work surface, easily cleaned and can do some light welding on. Use 2 x 20 amp circuits when you wire in the outlets and every second outlet is on the opposite circuit. You can never have too much light. Wire the lights on separate switches so you can turn on whatever you need.

Looks like a good space. 4 lights might be ok . You can always add more later. It can be nice to have extra lighting over your workbench.

lots of outlets and circuits. My garage only had one outlet and my breaker panel is on the other end of the house. I just installed a 20 space breaker panel in the garage with a 100amp feed. Now I can get some useful outlets. I second the motion for file cabinets.

I am planning on a retractable trouble light too, forgot to mention that.

Problem with making it bigger is i have lots of stuff, i need the storage over on the other side, plus if i go bigger im gonna cut into the side with the sliding door. I am planning on puttng up alot of shelving.

I actually have a heavy steel workbench (you can see it in the pic, its got the light over it), the filing cabinet isnt a bad idea. Ill see how floorspace works out.

My workbench im using is on the right side of the pic, it has a large light built into it.

Too much light is almost never a problem, not enough light is always a problem. If you think 4 lights is enough... install 6 or even 8 of them. Make 2 banks on different circuits. If 8 is too much for what you’re working on, you can always shut half of them off.
