Runs, then Doesn't run

I have a 97 XLT 4X4 extended cab with a 4.0 litre.
My problem is she cranks and cranks like she's not getting gas. If I leave it sit a day or so she'll start and run fine. It has happened about 4 times in the last 6 weeks.
Is it the fuel pump starting to go bad? Is there a relay that may be jacked up? I'm not sure but a buddy of mine seems to think my truck was a flood victim in a previous life. I have had some quirky electrical problems in the past.
Any help would be awesome. Summer is fading fast, and if I gotta drop the tank I'd rather it be warm.

Could be a bunch of things. Have you checked for spark? Pressure at the fuel rail? Just off the top of my head, could be:
1. Fuel pump
2. Fuel pump relay
3. CPS
4. Fuel pump inertia switch (passenger firewall under the rug on my 94)
5. Aliens
6. Wife took out your coil pack to keep you from goin down the road
