Runs good cold TFI??

Well its a 86, and it runs pretty good when its cold but as soon as it warms up it dies then does not want to start back up. It will be running good the all the suddun it just dies or I have to hold it to the floor to keep it running. It almost feels like it is flooding out because sometimes when it starts to die if you keep it at wot it will keep going. I pulled the codes and it gave em a 54 for iat, that I have since replaced and there must be a short in the wiring because I cleared the codes it came back. I also got a 67 but that just says its a trans issue. any ideas on what would be causing this? It was running very rich when i bought it but I found that the map sensor was not even plugged in.

Typically running good cold and then having issues with runability after it reaches operating temp....smackes of a bad TFI. you can remove it and have it tested at your favorite parts store.

but it could be several other things yet...map sensor not plugged in and or not working certainly is one.
what kind of fuel pressure ??

as for the code 67....hmmm...could have a vacuum leak that is eventualy not getting enough vacuum for the trans module, hence trip its code?? stab in the dark

try unplugging the o2 sensor to see if that helps, for temporary.

Well its a 5 speed so it must be a computer for a auto. The tfi is the module on the dist right?

Mine was doing the same thing, and the problem was the o2 sensor on the exhuast wasnt working, so i got a new one and my truck (86 ranger 2.9) has run perfectly th last 2 years :3gears:
 
Well I replaced the module and no change still has issues looks like whoever had this truck was doing the same thing I am because the TFI module I replaced looks like new. But after I change it I pulled all the plugs and they are all covered in a thin layer of carbon the wipe off. The front tow passenger plugs were wet on the threads but the electrodes were dry. Anyway to test a O2 sensor?
 
code 67 is neutral switch, you had it in gear when you ran the codes.
