I have my Ranger running really well but in the last couple weeks it has started running really rough at start up. It runs bad for about 30 seconds or so the first time I start it up of a day. If I rev it to around 2000rpm it seems to clear out quicker. I have had it checked twice by a friend who does diagnostics to find a few other problems I fixed. Everything was working well other than the problems he found. The last thing I did was put it a new coil and plug-in,the plug was bad and the coil was weak. Could the sparkplugs be bad after running with a weak coil? I thought(hoped) it was just a tank of bad gas but I filled it up again and it runs the same:icon_confused: I changed the fuel filter soon after I got it in March, could that be it already?

yes change the fuel filter

DID or have your buddy, check the fuel pressure and coolant temp sensor??

it wouldn't hurt to have a new set of plugs ...if it is over fueling terribly, then yes it's possible to foul a set of plugs pretty quickly. that said it could be leaned out on start up too.?? Either case they need to be checked..

Is this belching black out the tailpipe upon start up when it is not runnig well?? blue?? white??

I think he did check the CTS and that's one of the first parts I changed when I started working on it. I checked the fuel pressure before and after I changed the FPR(which was bad),with the enw FPR I have 40 psi engine off and 33 engine running. I'm not getting any smoke at start up and haven't noticed a gas smell when I start it. I need to pull a plug and see how they look,I WAS getting a gas smell before I changed the coil and plug-in at start up. In a way I hope it is the plugs because they are easy to change and relatively cheap but I have changed them 4 times already while I was tracking down the running over rich problems(fixed). Thanks IM
