my truck is running really rich. its a 86 2.9. i have a fuel cell and external pump. do i need to add a fuel regulator before the fuel rail or should the rail slow it down regulate it enough??

yeah its there but its still running really rich and i think my pump may just be pumping to much to fast. is this possible

Fuel pump should pump the same amount, regradless. other items control the amount of delivery...Fuel Pressure regulator for one controls the pressure to the system.

other things affect the amount getting delivered like.
coolant temp sensor
MAP sensor
O2 sensor
I'm sure there are others...but you get the Idea.

For example....If your running rich it maybe the temp sensor is giving a false signal to the computor to deliver more fuel.

not saying that is what is happening...just that you should look at other things than just the fuel pump(whole picture)

well have you tested your fuel pressure? Inspected the fuel pressure regulator for correct functioning? Are there codes present in either of the self tests?
