I AM IN NEED! isn't everyone though... i need advice before i do anything drastic. i want to run 35's om my 2wd 96 4 Banger. it got more than sufficient height, i just need the gearing to go right. what EXACTLY should i be looking for? i want either a D35 or D44 (not really but if necessary... i'll make it work...) with 5.13 gears. where the hell do i find EITHER of them in Backwoods Northern AZ.
does anyone have anything i may need just laying around you could ship or deliver? i'd pay handsomely (cash) for the right parts. i can install everything myself, or with help, but it would be best if you could possibly tell me whats up. in dummy terms so i won't forget anything.

wait you want a d35 for a 2wd? a dana 35 is a front axle, are you converting it to 4wd?

There is nothing Dana35 on your truck being a 2wd.

It most likely has the ford 7.5" rear differential being it's a 4cyl truck.

well, if you're willing to pay, just go to one of the off-road specialty sites and order up a d44 set up for your truck with the gears and locker you want. it will be delivered ready for you to install. and it will probably set you back a couple grand, or more.
or you could get an explorer 8.8 and put gears and locker in it. and if i were you, i'd get an axle that has disc brakes to help stop those big tires.
you might have to make a trip to the big city, but it will be worth it in the end.
imho

Your best bet, is to find an exploder 8.8 and swap that in place of your current rear axle.

Only jeeps run D35 in the rear and the carriers will not swap, neither will gears I dont believe.

As far as bigger rubbers, it just depends on your pecker size and whether or not your current rubber is too tight or too loose.

welll seems i was misinformed, damned local mechanics... i was told d35 would bolt up with a few mods. thanks for all the help,

feellnfroggy>>> MAGNUM SUCKA! hah.

there is actually an exploerer a few miles away on Craigslist. it has an 8.8 with detroit locker. he wants 900 for the axle. it has 4.56 gears. was a mudder but ran into some technical difficulties with home-made wiring and burned from the engine back. would it be worth 900?

depends how much it is worth to you....i wouldnt pay it unless it had some goodies to go along with it

well as far as goodies, he's going to install it apparently, and if i do buy it and pay full asking price, which is not the best, he'll throw in the tires and rims that're on it with the two front as well, the tires are shot but the rims are american racing rally's. 600 bucks new.

that makes it a better deal. axle, locker, install, rims, and tires, yeah, i'd go for that. he'll be modding the axle to fit your ranger so i think it's a decent deal. added benefit: any problems, you can take it back to him for some repair help. sounds like someone who may be able to help with other things down the road if you two do this deal right.
just my $.02.

couldn't agree more, i just gotta sell my Bikes in order to afford it. anyone want a Cr250R and 1974 KX 250 basket case? its like all there but i don't like KX's.... and i need the money for all this stuff...

I would offer him 70 for the bunch and offer to help him with the install.
