Rubicon Ready Suspension Lift

I will.. AFTER I do the rubicon 2wd.. The whole point for me is to do 2wd.. And it is not the same to do it IN 2wd.. I want to do it WITH a 2wd.. With all the work I have already done, I had to have so much self control already to NOT do SAS. Cause that won't be as difficult to do.. But I won't be impressed with a ranger on 36" swampers 4wd doing the rubicon. A 2wd on the other hand... I will be.. I am honestly doing it for myself and for all us guys here that get teased for having a "useless 2wd" and "why didn't we just buy a 4wd instead of wasting our money on the 2wd.." I know my ranger will do SOME things that stock 4wd rangers CAN'T do the way it sits.. So when I am done with it, it will be even MORE capable..

Well said. Mucho respect for you.

ha I just get tired of people having no respect for other guys' 2wd they did a nice job building up.. And a 2wd locked is a pretty solid wheeler. It is just the old american attitude like everything else.. Oh a .45 is better than a 9mm because it is bigger, or american muscle over imports or whatever.. If you put enough work into something it can be great no matter what it is.. So we will see how this all turns out.. I am gonna run the John Bull Trail before the rubicon for my "official" test run. And there are a couple places around me (within an hour or so) that have pretty solid trails as well..

My same way of thinking. You get rep for this brother. I added you to my friends list. When you do this and get pics and vids up let me know. :icon_thumby:

Well good.. Cause I need to go with someone and I think my cousin will be selling his toyota.. So I don't think I will have anyone to go with.. What would you go in?

My Ranger, if all goes to plan it will be locked on 35's by then, we will see. Money is tight and there is a gun I want to buy right now.

impressive work on that truck man! and good luck on your proyect.

i would suggest u to hunt down a 4x4 m5od tranny, it came on the 88-97 4 banger 4wd Rangers, but fits into our 2.5 engines(same block as the 2.3) that way u dont have to replace the output shaft in yours and im pretty sure all of them had the borg warner manual t case

Thanks man.. Hmm.. I will have to look into that. Because I would rather just swap trannies like you are suggesting.. Cause like I said, when I am done with the rubicon I am gonna convert it to 4wd. So that would be one less step to take. I will look into that. Does it have the same gearing though? Cause I don't want to regear my rear end again...

I need to check my tranny out and see which one it is.. I have never actually bothered to look and see.. Hopefully I can run the same clutch and stuff..

I am headed up to tahoe for the next few days, so I won't be replying on here.. Be back tues or wed. Hopefully get through the chain controls like normal.. ha ha :thefinger: One more thing I am gonna need to look up as well, is different universals for the driveshaft. I want to get something pretty strong, and the factory universals don't look like they will be that great.. So any thoughts over the next few days for me to check when I get back would be nice. I heard someone with a 2wd was running an expedition driveshaft, but I don't know if that is any stronger or not...

im 99% sure your truck has an M5OD, so yeah ur good to go on that swap. i want one for mine too, since i have plans to SAS it this year

meh, why stop at 2wd???

pull the engine and bolt a warn 15000 pounder to the crossmember. that way you can tell everybody you did rubicon in nowheeldrive!!! = RESPEKT!

you'll probly only end up winching a little more than you'll have to in 2wd anyways...

there you go, a little hatin to fuel your fire

id definately go with some soft jeep coils on the front, im running some progressive coils on mine right now and they have great manners on the street, but they dont flex very good offroad. i think RSH might be onto something with doing a 4x4 trans swap, that was youll have the right output shaft on the trans to begin with, you can build your doubler, and then run it in 2wd (technically youll be spinning the front output shaft too, but theres still no D shaft or axle attached to it, maybe tie a colorfull pinwheel to it for bling?).

well. you picked a great time to run the con in 2wd. its pretty much a fawkin road now from the pics/videos i have seen verse once i have personally taken.

i dont think you need to invest too much to do this. of course there are still some decent challenge obstacles. i have not been there since its been neutered this last few years. but i wouldnt think twice about running a stock jeep through there, so locked 2wd and winch should be a decent challenge to see tahoe.

just a locker and a high quality warn type winch and you could drag a 2wd stocker through there and say you did it, no need to waste money on huge tires, gears etc.

You can safely say its 100% that he has a M5OD. They only used the FM45 and Toyo Kogo transmissions. Ford stopped using both in 92 and 85. They switched to the M5OD exclusively about the same time they came out with the third gens if I'm not mistaken.

a little fuel for my fire.. ha ha.. I have heard different things about it being easier or harder in the last few years.. I know it is still harder than the ORIGINAL trail.. And... If it is so easy, then why are the jeep rubicons running 4wd with locked rears.. :icon_confused: That is my point.. It will still be very difficult.. And my goal for doing it in 2wd was to have a 2wd wheeler that is equal to a stock 4wd.. So if I can do it in a 2wd ranger then I would say it is equal to or better than most stock 4wds for wheeling...

have you tried hollister yet? you have not been to the con for sure if thats your take on this...

doing the con in reg 4x4 very doable. almost easy by way of direct comparison to a rwd pickup. this is attempting some obstacles

doing con with 2wd locked pickup, not so easy, definitely doable. not doing any obstacles like soup bowl and box.

using con to prove locked 2wd better then most stock 4x4

ABSOFUGGINLUTELY
DELUSIONAL:icon_rofl:

thanks for the laugh.:icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

to make a 2wd locked pickup compare to a 4x4 you would be better served to convert it to front wheel drive for many situations.

2wd works great till you get to a place where you need 4x4.....

some shit you cant do 2wd. sorry, it is what it is.

I typed out a whole big long explanation just now and the internet locked up so i am not gonna retype it all.. My point was that my 2wd will wheel better than most stock 4wd's. I personally haven't seen many stock 4wd's that are very off road capable.. I mean other than like a jeep rubicon or something, they are pretty sad... And my truck even now the way it sits can do MANY things that MOST stock 4wd's can't do... Obviously there are things that they can do that I cannot as well.. I am saying, I have a lot of clearance and great tires... My truck will be capable of wheeling better than basically any stock full size 4wd vehicles (f-series, silverados, rams, suburbans, etc)... Which means it will wheel better than MOST 4wd vehicles on the road.. Probably even do equivalent to or better than a non-locked wrangler etc... That is all.. And I have been to the rubicon but it has been years... And I OBVIOUSLY would not be able to make all the nasty stuff.. Probably none of it.. I just want to do as much as I can and see how I do.. And I know you will still disagree, but.. I have already done many things that many stock 4wd's can't do strictly because of clearance alone..
