Rough running 2.9l

WTF?

If youre 1000% sure that map is good only other thing i can possibly think of would be possibly the igniton module, alot of things depend on that for information
I’ll go rn and buy another map and maybe I just got another bad one by chance but I would assume I’d get a code for it or something. This thing is pissing me off XD

And if it was the ignition module I would think it would die either way if map was attached to vacuum or not.

Welcome to the 2.9. Youll swear at them then swear by them once they are tuned in.

There is a way to test the MAP but it requires a frequency function on a voltmeter and im not sure how to do it

Brand new map and absolutely no change I’m seriously stumped. Guess I’ll go return it. Absolutely no throttle just just back firing out the intake and dies. Unplugged revs pretty good only a small miss fire

Backfireing out the intake is either igniton timing or valve timing.

Got a fuel pressure tester and it’s right at 33 and holds there for a long time. Goes up to almost 40psi when reved so kinda ruling out fuel
Timing set to 10-12BTDC with the SPOUT pulled out?

I’ll have to go back out and pick up a timing light motor is timed from the old ranger it was in so i thought it would be the same but I’ll check
It shouldnt of changed unless you messed with the distributor.

All I did was put a new cap and rotor in it since it was cracked from the guy pulling the engine out. Haven’t moved it and it’s tight. Running out of ideas I’m really trying not to take it in to a shop since it’s my project.

Did you hear the engine run before you bought it? Its still possible maybe he dicked with the dist beforehand.

Check the timing...just for poos and giggles. If its popping out the intake its gotta be time. Either valve or ignition.

Ignition is eaiser to check

Sadly of course he already pulled it by the time I got to his house and he was even younger then I am so I’m guessing there’s a reason why he sold it tbh. It sounds healthy besides I very nice loud lifter tick lmao. It’s so weird it idles now with the new map but when you hit the throttle fast at all it will just suck air extremely loud and maybe 5-10 seconds after if kept open it’ll rev.

I’ll buy a new distributor and see if I can set the timing correctly
