I have a 97 range with the 2.3L in it. When i start it, it'll run fine for awhile, then it'll start idling a lil choppy, but not to the point that it'll stall. The guy i bought it from said he had a diagnostics check on the motor, and it threw a code saying the Mass air sensor is bad. can the mass air sensor make the engine idle rough? also were is it an were is it located? when i bought the truck it had an aftermarket k&n intake on it, so the stock intake is all gone pretty much
thanks for any help!! :)

yes the mass air flow will cause it to idle rough. it should be located in/on the intake tube. if you find it make sure the connections aren't corroded.

Keeping in mind if its the MAF then you will most likely have probs other than idle. It will idle rough but you will also have a stutter in the upper rpm range or it will not rev past about 3-4k. My 96 probe 2.0 and 92 2.3l both have probs with the maf and I have the same issues with both regarding the RPM's and fuel mileage. If you unplug the Maf and it smooths out somewhat, then the maf is your prob. Just dont run it like that, It will be insanely rich. The extra fuel will wash the cylinder walls and you dont want that for too long.

also the person you bought it from might of try to do away with it not knowing what he was doing!
i think ur right, because the mass ais sensor was sittin under the hood not hooked to anything, i looked but i couldnt see anywere were i could bolt it back up, does it go inside the intake muffler? if so thats still on the intake...

yea it only idles rough, i can drive it and itll run just fine, i drove the truck home (30+ miles) with no problems at all.....except traction:headbang:

does anyone have a pic of were the mass air sensor bolts up? if you do please post it for me i want to bolt mine back up so itll run smooth again

you cant miss it. if its factory intake it mounts right on top about 3-4 inches from the filter on most cars. if its aftermarket is should mount right to the tube. Can you sumbit underhood pics.

can you take a picture of your underhood and intake? the MAF is bolted to the airbox on my stock setup. it's in-line with the intake tubing. If it's not hooked up at all thats no good. getting everything back to the way it's supposed to be will make you a happy camper.

I'll try and get some underhood pics tonite, if we dont get any more ice storms here in Pa lol

Underhood pics.. Kinda feels like asking a girl to lift her skirt huh?

Heres an underhood pic, as you can see the MAF is completely off it, so ill "frankenstein" something onto it, so i can hook the MAF up soon hopefully

yea i also went to the junkyard today, so i kno what the stock intake looks like now, so i might take some intake off one in the junkyard an make some kind of "custom made" intake, ill have pic up of it later on
