I would be willing to bet that your MAF is just dirty. Most people over oil the K&N filter and the MAF sensor wires get dirty.

So what you are saying that you are getting a air leak after the MAF correct? If you get any incoming air in the intake tube once the air has been metered through the MAF it will idle rough and usually runs like crap. How does it run on the top end?
you can make it real simple and do away with all that junk in there and fab up an MAF adapter out of a shower drain- check tech library. or do like you said and get a full stock setup out of the junkyard.
here's what mine looks like-

once i figure a good way to mount it i'll do away with that last bend, and put in some kind of barrier to keep water away from it. also i don't know where your factory air intake temp sensor is, but on mine it's inside the airbox before the filter, so when I move it I'll also have to cut a hole in the intake pipe and mount the temp sensor in there. another note, don't try to use the maf adapters from auto zone, I have one and the diameter of the pipe isn't right, wouldn't run with the MAF inside, had to use the factory housing to keep the truck running. So don't waste your money.![]()
