rough idle and engine light flashes

Yea I reset the computer and no change. I also took the throttle body off and cleaned it. If you give it to much gas when it's messin up it backfires and lets out a puff of smoke.

have you read the codes out of the computer after unhooking the battery? If so what is the computer saying now?

other thoughts, unplug your MAP sensor after reading codes, see if the truck runs any different. How is the Oxygen sensor, I was reading on another thread about TPS and Oxygen having issues on someone else post, another thing how is the hall effect pickup in the distributor, if its cracked I would replace it, but you have to take apart the distributor to get to it or get a new remaned one if you dont want to buy the tool to get the gear off the end of the shaft. You sure you didnt crack a plug when installing them? recheck that the boots of the wires are firmly on the ends of the plugs, here a slight click or feel a slight click when they all went on?

I've checked all the plugs and wires and cleaned them. I've replaced the o2 sensor. When you rev the truck wide open and let off the gas it sounds like its forcing air back out the throttle body ( kinda like a turbo flutter without the turbo)

Maybe your TFI is about ready to take a crap, I think yours being you got a later model is located in that fined aluminum block easy to remove, take it to an autozone or an autoparts store if they got a module tester and have them test it.

Ok I am watching your video on youtube, idling just above 500rpm, normal operating temperature, hows the ECT(coolant sensor)? Whats the outside air temp? Did this problem start when the air temperature got cooler now that it is fall?

actually I was reading your oil pressure gauge, whats it run like at normal operating temp?

Driveability symptoms that can be caused by a bad
MAP sensor, grounds or opens in the sensor’s wiring
circuit, vacuum leaks in the sensor hose or intake
manifold include hard starting, hesitation, engine
misfires, stalling, rough or erratic idle, pinging, black
exhaust smoke (rich fuel condition resulting in high
hydrocarbon emissions), poor fuel economy and
generally poor engine performance.

That video was made when the truck was at normal operating temp. The temp gauge is broke. where is the ECT sensor? And does anyone have a link to a page that tells the voltage or ohms to all the sensors so I can check them?

All of the above is good information. The idle mixture is controlled by the Engine Coolant sensor which in turn controls the idle air control. There are two temperature sensors. The one with one wire feeds the temp guage on the dash. The one with two wires is the engine coolant sensor. I had some similar problems until I replaced this sensor. It is not an expensive item. There is also a proceedure to set the throttle stop screw. It does not set the idle RPM however it will increase the RPM if screwed in too far which opens the butterfly and starts by passing the IAC. Hope this info is helpful
