i have an 87 ranger 4x4 well tonight i went to go the store and the first time i pushed on the brakes the pedle was pushing back and thumping so i got out and looked and sure enought the rotor is cracked:annoyed: again. this is the 3ed time in the last 2 years the rotors were put on there about 2 months ago and dont even have 500 miles on them. i replaced them because the drivers side cracked the last 2 times now the pasangers side is. we just looked at them on saterday and it wasent drove untill tonight. so it cracked well siting there i guess???? if thats posbile. both calpers r new on the truck too. im geting :annoyed::annoyed: really annoyed. there goes another $50 down the drain :pissedoff:

Where are you getting your rotors? Becuase places like Autozone have cheap chinese manufactured stuff and what not normally and those rotors are alot thinner then ones you would get at Napa or something. Also I find it extremely suspicious that your cracking rotors, I have never seen a rotor crack even under extreme braking.

Yeah, a really cheap rotor MIGHT do that. Try NAPA. Along with a set of good pads. You'd be surprised how far good parts go.

they are from napa and they crack stright down where the pads go i got two of them to prove it. we got a 1977 f 250 with over 100,000 miles on it "i lost track of it after it rolled over" and it has the orignal brake rotors on the front and they still look like new. this chinese crap is pissing me off

Check if the hardware is seized up or just worn. Hardware kits are cheap insurance, that and some caliper lube. Seen that do it, and again..overtightened lugnuts.. misadjusted wheelbearing/hub..

If not, see if you can replicate it with the tire off? It might give you some idea. The pads could be the wrong size for the application, something silly. If it isn't something above, probably a good idea to have a GOOD brake shop take a poke at it in a technical manner with all the fancy dial indicators, unless you want to hack out runout and so forth yourself.

its all new and right they just crack on the one face from the top down to about half way there the pads ride. i read something a long time ago about a recall on these rotors befor or something

I'll check the TSBs when I go to the shop tomorrow and post back if there's anything relevant. In the meantime, you can always try a dealer rotor.
Sometimes they're actually cheaper for Fords. Weird.
