Ok I have a few questions on this. First off I have a stud guide kit from my old 351C is this the same stud guide conversion? Or do they sell the right rockrs to do away with this stud kit? Also does anyone have part numbers for the 1.7 or 1.8 rockers to go on the 3.0L? For that matter can I use a set of factory 351C stamped rockers @ 1.73?

google tom morana racing engines-- they got the roller rockers.

Right but I would rather buy from Summit and save the $150 for something else. They list the 1.8's at 400 you can get them from summit for about half that. I just need to find out if i can use the guide kit i have or get a new one. Or even better if I can just slide in the old 351C/460/351M rockers. Thos things are like free in the JY.

I must be going out on a limb here, going were no one has gone before. Well I will post what I find out.

The 1.8's are built by Harland Sharp for Morana racing to their spec and include the metric bolts needed to install so there is no need to tap a hole for standard bolts used with V8 rockers. This is worth the extra money for people with less experiance.

a few guys on here b4 morana had the parts used 5.0 rockers just had to change the rocker studs out or use metric bolts instead of sae i cant remember exactly, wouldnt surprise me if it would fit. i think mutant pony did the 5.0 rocker swap or i seen his name attached to something about doing it, could be wrong tho.

There haven't been many detailed facts published about the roller rockers. Here and there I've picked up some information.

There are some who have said they slapped 5.0L rockers in the 3.0L and there were no problems.

There are others who have done the same and report problems with the roller tip not being properly aligned over the valve tip, and that causes premature wear. In other words, throughout the rocking motion of the rocker, the roller tip doesn't sweep/roll across the tip symmetrically--rather it stays closer to one edge than the other (on average) and that causes the tips to wear very quickly (like 10k-20k before they are worn out).

Now all of the above is basically anecdotal evidence until you search through the posts here and on the RPS forums and verify the sources on your own... I'm just describing what I remember reading over the years.

Morana obviously isn't going to confirm whether an off-the-shelf part (which can be found for 50% of Morana's price) is going to fit.

The Rogue roller rockers were made by one of the manufacturers that went bankrupt (Crane Cams, I think) and Rogue has not offered a replacement part yet. I don't know whether that is because no other source is available (which would indicate that the ubiquitous 5.0L rockers are not suitable) or rather because Rogue had so many headaches with people not understanding how to install them that it wasn't worth the time spent answering questions and walking people through the install.

The Morana rockers are pedestal rockers (bolt-on and go). The Rogue rockers were stud-mount rockers which required each rocker stud to be adjusted as it was installed for proper lifter pre-load. Most shade-tree mechanics nowadays aren't familiar with this process and I suspect that was the source of most of the installation headaches.

Back on the Taurus forums (I'm going back a good 7-8 years now so my memory is fuzzy) there was talk of some off-the-shelf pedestal rocker being suitable IF you had a machine shop shave like .030" off of each pedestal. This may be what Morana is doing... having the manufacturer custom-machine an otherwise standard part. Or that may be a bunch of crap. Take your pick. :D
