so gang I'm trying to come up with an idea of how much this is gona cost me. I have two problems. The first one is that I am in Kuwait and I have no clue how much tube I'm gona need. So I was curious sence Bronco 2's are hard to come by on a military post that someone would hook me up with some measurments. I'm not gona do to extravagent of a cage just something to hold up a canvas top. So I'm looking for from the roof down the A-piller to the floor, from that point on the roof to the back of the drivers door and then to the the rear of the truck, the width, and height. I know the floorpan is up higher in the rear but the measurement from behind the drivers seat to the floor will work. I think thats all I need. I made a outline on paint if you have anymore questions please ask and I will try and get that on here. Thank you to all that help. I really apreciate the time. Thanks again
Gabe

guestimate yourself with a simple cage at 180-200 ft. this would give you plenty of scrap also.

You might want to re-think using pipe and use the correct material aka "tube".

I only needed about 60ft of tube for mine. Unless you want to add some more diagonals (which I may still do on mine in the back), I would shoot for about 80ft so you have a little for screw-ups (unless you're the type that needs to learn for a bit, then get 100 feet lol)

Sorry I don't have any exact measurements handy, i used the "PVC pipe" method for mockups when I built it.

When did you cage yours junkie?

prerunin hey thanks for catching me on that technicality... corrected my grammer error TM...but honestly someone asks a question and thats the kind of in put you have...and for your personal knowledge i planed on useing DOM 1.75x .120 just so you know i got the right stuff...chromoly is to rich for my blood...
junkie thanks for the pic and the info that sounds good...thats crazy i seen on another forum with two measurements one for the height and the width...from that i estimated about 70ft so i was damn close...if you could send more pics and i am very curious how you tied into the frame...thank you :icon_cheers:

I was just messing around, its all that P4x4 talk... "pipe this, pipe that" So, i guestimated pretty high it seems, but I like to see an X every here and there in a cage. Plus, planning for the worst is the best thing to do when it comes to cost of the material

ya i seen one guy write that he bought 500ft n i thought he was nuts...thats an outrageous amount of tubing...then i priced it then ya i said no way...especially chromoly...seriously the one company wanted .50$n inch...but ya 60 ft sounds good a couple x's would be good...i will look into it when i get home...or adding atleast one to the back cause the top is off...

i bought 100ft of tube for mine and that built my cage and front bumper, and i had about 3-4ft of leftover.

Unless you're going to TIG weld the chrome-moly tubing, or are willing to anneal the entire cage after its completion, you're actually better off with mild steel tubing. The MIG welding process causes the material to become very brittle in the HAZ (Heat Effected Zone), and thus weakens the entire structure.

When we 'designed' (but never built) Burnsides' cage, we figured about 100ft would cover the cage and all triangulation that he wanted.

When did you cage yours junkie?

I guess it's been a bit over 1½ years now (March or April '08 I think it was).

Its bolted down using large 6x10" or so plates, while at the same time sandwiching the floor in between them.
