slowly assembling my 4.0. there doesn't seem to be any clear direction on which way the rods should be installed. would seem to me that the rotation of the crank would dictate all the oil squirters face the same direction:icon_confused:

wondering what people here who rebuilt have done. anyone have some pics of a stock motor that could shed some light on this?

I think the piston and connecting rod both have a mark and should be assembled with marks on the same side, and then both marks should face the front of the block when installed on crank.
Notch on piston
Dot/button on connecting rod, just below center

Not sure it has that in here but a good read none the less: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/40rebuild.htm

i will have to double check the rods. i didn't see the dot, must have missed it. thanks
