Rocky Mountain Ranger '92 SAS

You better grab a case, it'll take more than just one beer, even if yours has a nipple on top ;missingteeth;

Yeah, its like that setup. I wouldn't use the stock style ram. I was referring to that setup to see if the stock box was tapped, which doesn't look like it is in the link you sent. The older ford box that's shaped like the fj box is what the 75 ford had, and what i was thinking of using. When i actually get down to doing the swap, I'm sure I'll have which one i plan to use decided. I just really haven't begun to really research them yet...

Sounds good, cant wait to see 60s under a Sporttrac:headbang:

oh i see, you were just waiting to see what i screwed up on my D30 SAS so you could toss yours under there real fast lol.

looks good so far, i'm gonna grab a beer and pull up a chair for this

Haha, Ive been watching your build closely, as well as going off of Stang's RR and TNT Rangers, random XJ builds and aftermarket setups. Stang set up the gears and carrier in my D30 for me and I used his plasma setup to burn the coil perches and some other useless brackets off the axle. Thanks Josh! With the knuckle swap it will certainly change how i set everything up but they will all be similar. I take lots of pictures so I will document my screw-ups and we can all learn from them too.:icon_cheers:

yeah i followed his builds as well. good stuff there. you're lucky you live close by. i'm most likely gonna have to bite the bullet and do my gear installs myself. not doing that til i get a HP30 though

i did a d30 swap a few months back, looking forward to see how you do yours.... i did mine with stock cherokee arms tho, lookin at long arms in the future maybe tho

Setting up differential gears is a skill I really want to learn...a few specialty tools and following procedure exactly, I dont think it would be too hard just expensive if you get it wrong. I think I will try to set up the gears in my 14bolt...seems like a good simple platform to start on.

Do you have a build thread?

Setting up gears is not that hard. If you are just swapping gears and keeping the same carrier 95% of the time you can re-use the shims in their original location and have good pattern. I've done a dozen or so swaps, and all but 2 reused the same thickness of shims, the other two, one was a carrier swap, the other an E-locker install...

i'd like to learn as well. i'm thinking i'll start with the HP30 when i get it and use it as practice. seems like there's a little more forgiveness there since it wont be run faster than 5 or 10 MPH

a 14B shouldnt be too hard from what i've read/seen. they have the adjusters in the diff or on the carrier already. i think it was on pirate that i saw an article on how to do it.

i need to make some friends around here that know how to do it so they can show me

I'm sure a quick search on YouTube will turn up a how to...

VERY nice build! I like it a lot. You do clean work!

Did you rattle can the truck? If so, it turned out really nice and even.

Also, those seats look great!

The bed will be bobbed enough to fit this tonneau cover flush at the tailgate ~13". The frame will be cut to match which will end up just behind the stock shackle mounts.:icon_welder:

I like that type of bed cover. The original one for my Trac is fubar'd, thinking of making one like that for it...

Yeah its nice, probably wouldnt be too hard to duplicate. I like how it sits flush with the bedsides, and the rubber seal keeps anything in the bed dry. It easily holds my weight, if I do an excursion tent I am sure I could fab a small rack and set it on top.

Oh, and I got these mounted today, since I had a spare set of doors I decided to cut them up...WoodyB2 gave me an idea for quick disconnects I used 3/8" bolts and drilled out the hinges as well as the bronze bushings that are pressed into the hinges to fit snug, then cross drilled the bolts and added retaining pins. I originally tried 5/16" bolts but they were too small.
The doors took me about 4 hours a piece including paint. I have always wanted more visibility on the trail, especially on the passenger side, the extra airflow is nice especially on a vehicle with no AC. I get a lot of looks from people when driving around. Just need to add mirrors, driving in heavy traffic is sketchy without them.
