Anyone here like to take roadtrips?

Vanessa and I do. We got up one morning and decided to take a road trip. Ended up on the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC. We love just driving no place particular.

Anyways, I thought it would be cool to take TRS-2 on a roadtrip this summer instead of trailering it everywhere I go. It has a little hesitation to it, but I think it's an issue of needing new fuel injectors. Thought about changing the fuel injectors, fuel filter, plugs and wires and hitting the road. Not knowing the condition of the timing chain/oil pump is my only concern. Could be a lot of fun though.

I thought about heading across US30 and then up the coast on US1. Then I'd like to go across US6 on the way back. I'd like to hit some nice campgrounds and do some camping to save some money.

Anyone have any experience going up US1? Is it a nice drive? I want to stay off the interstate and enjoy the scenery more. That's why I'm sticking to US routes.

Since my truck is so old, I may need to get a list of members I can contact in case I break down somewhere.

Anyone ever do any long roadtrips in a high mileage Ranger?

In what part of the country? I've driven just about every mile of 1 in Maine (though not continuously)...parts are nice, I suppose, but I'd rather drive interstate than fight town/city traffic, and coastal roads tend to have too much traffic for my taste.

NH is about the same, MA is a disaster. South of that, I don't know the road too well.

Put 1500 +/- on my '97 in a three-day weekend one time, just for the heck of it...no problems, 'cept I ended up driving so much farther than I'd originally planned, that I over-ran my oil change schedule by about a hundred miles.

i like taking long roadtrips , the furthest i have taken a ranger so far is down to florida and back , been all over the Northeast in 2 different rangers , my dream is to drive from coast to coast on US20 which runs through my county about 20 miles from my house

I've got 290k on mine with no real repairs or replacements on the engine, and do regular 1000-1500k road trips year around. Only issue I ever had was loosing a belt once, bombing down a gravel road and caught a rock between the belt and pulley, split the belt in half and started making noise. I babied it to the town and replaced it, and never a problem since.

Me and my wife (girlfriend at he time) took off one morning heading north, ended up in Canada. Took a ride through the locks got a pizza and headed home. There wasnt any rooms available on the way home so i had to drive the whole way. Ended up putting 1006 miles on my new mustang that weekend.

iv been wanting to hit up a road trip really bad! tho id cross country (err canada) my b2 from edmonton alberta to prince edward island to see my other grandparents that i havent seen in around 12 years!

tho i dont think its in the cards this year...i fully expect to do it next!

Thanks man, you're an inspiration.

In my old 86 2wd I drove from Edmonton to Penticton BC ( 12 hr drive ) and Edmonton to Manitoba ( 11 hr drive ) many , many times. Did a water pump in Penticton once. That is it.:icon_thumby:

Road trips with no special place to go can be fun. Took off with a friend in '72' basically down old '66'. No plans made or reservations. Went down to Tuscon and then back up thru Utah, Colorado, Black Hills and back home. Hard to believe but we are still best of friends after 38 years. Which ever way you go, there are some really beautiful spots in this country.

More people need to do that.

If I'm going on vacation with my kids I like to know I'll have a room waiting for us wherever it is we're going. But for Vanessa and I, we just like to go. Drive until we get tired, find a hotel with a clean bed and shower, and get up the next day and head out for more.

I don't like to live by a strict plan or schedule. I'm fortunate now that I have a wife that shares the same sense of adventure.

I think we'll be heading up to Michigan around May. She has a sister up there she hasn't seen in several years. We'll be taking the F-150 on that trip though.

I am heading to Nova Scotia this Easter to help my mother with her pile of crap of a house she just bought.

In Joggins of all places. It may be right up beside the bay of Fundy but man its got no trees! And the east coast ALWAYS gets it in the winter.

i bought my truck 8.5 hours away....then proceeded to drive it back the 8.5 hours home, but heres the catch, it has close to 360 000 km on it. No problem :)

i had an old 83 s-10 (ya ya i know a chevy) needed a truck and it got me through the winter! i took it to calgary once on an ill planned road trip to calgary (3 hour drive) the truck lost power just passed red deer. just stopped dead. the block was ice cold..(middle of winter) thought "ok ill just sit and wait for a few minutes" couple minutes later fired it up and drove there and back!

never would i do that again with such an ill prepared truck tho! did the same trip in a 86 tercel hatch....funny story when i first got on highway 2 the car wouldnt do 100...slowly it started creeping up in speed...it was hilarious...eventually i had the thing bootin it 160 down H2. got back from calgary in 2 hours and managed to burn almost 2 litres of oil LOL. ahh good old Canadian road trips!

If you get up to New England in my neck of the woods, there are craploads of cool roads you need to drive.

Among my favorites:

VT-9 west to VT-100 north. Windy & gnarly, but well-maintained with great scenery. 100 esstentailly runs up the "spine of Vermont and crosses I-89 in Waterbury, VT, home to Ben & Jerry's. Also, 9 takes you up & over one of the twistiest chunks of two-lane known as Hogback. Just watch out for the semi's.

NH-112 to US-302. NH-112, better known as the Kangamangus or just the "Kanc" to locals, runs right through the White Mountain Nat'l Forest and 302 runs along the top & past the famous Mt. Washington Hotel.

NH-13 between Goffstown, Nh & New Boston, NH. Twisty hevan!

NH-1A: Runs right along Hampton Beach & up to Porstmouth, NH. NH may have a short seacost but's beautiful!
