Born: April 21, 1926
Reign: February 6, 1952
Passed: September 8, 2022

Elizabeth was never meant to be queen. Her father acceded to the throne in 1936 upon the abdication of Edward VIII making Elizabeth the heir presumptive. She was educated privately at home and began to undertake public duties during the second world war serving in the Auxiliary Territorial Service as a truck driver and mechanic. In November 1947, she married Philip Mountbatten, a former prince of Greece and Denmark, and their marriage lasted 73 years until his death in April 2021. They had four children: Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward.

When her father died in February 1952, Elizabeth—then 25 years old—became queen of seven independent Commonwealth countries: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, and Ceylon (known today as Sri Lanka) as well as Head of the Commonwealth.

I became facinated with the Queen after watching The Crown on Netflix. I'm not saying that series is 100% accurate, but it gave me a whole new respect for her.

She reigned for 70 years. Queen since 1952. I can only imagine the things she has seen and the people she's met during that time.

Rest in Peace.

She was a bad ass.

I appreciate her place and efforts.

Going forward OTOH....mmm

RIP. Thoughts and prayers to the UK and fellow commonwealths.

How can you not like a girl that's been a truck driver and a mechanic?

She was a class act, with a wicked sense of humor.

May she rest in peace.

If you'd like to say something negative about the queen/royal family, this thread is not the appropriate venue for it.

The Crown is a very good series.

Not 100% accurate but educational at least for me.

I need to finish it yet, oddly she lost interest before I did. Beats the tar out if hallmark hallmark channel imo.

I’m neutral on the British Royal family but one does have to give credit where it is due. She did do and see a lot. 70 years is a long time to be a major figure in government. Longer than that if you count the work she did before she became Queen. And, as noted above, she was a mechanic and driver in the British Military. She was more grounded than a lot of political figures out there.

RIP
She was a good person from what I have read and seen
Better than most, me included, lol

A nation lost their leader/figurehead, a woman who has a great history and was loved by many. More importantly, a family lost a beloved family member, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, etc. My prayers are for the comfort of that family who is mourning the loss of someone they loved.
