Hello! First post so bare with me. I recently bought my 3rd ford ranger. It is my first 4x4. I will me moving overseas for the next two years to a country that gets frequent snow and does not do much salting/plowing. I plan on getting a set snow tires and chains, but just incase there is an emergency I am thinking of installing an air locker in the rear and a LSD in the front (again this is only for emergencies) but was curious about what, if anything, this would do to my ride quality from day to day.

I run stock tires and don't do much off roading, I just want to have it if I need it in an emergency. Thanks in advance for your feed back.

the L/S might be a little weird depending on what type you get. The rear won't be any different.

For the front, depending on conditions, you can make both tires slip v.s one tire slipping and the other having some negligible amount of traction holding you in place or steering. Both can break loose and send you into peril. Part 2 is that most L/S's operate on the amount of resistance the slipping wheel still is able to provide, very little resistance = very little torque transfer to the wheel that has traction.

A selectable air locker will not slip, it will provide att the tractive effort that each individual tire can give. If it gets squirrely or is not needed, turn it off and if functions exactly like a stock diff.
