I just got done with rewiring the dash for the V8 tach mod, and my rev limiter kicks in at 5200 rpm :icon_confused: To my knowledge the factory sets the limiter at 6K...Is my limiter correct, or is my tach off that much?? 96 Explorer motor and ECU...

All Explorers 5.0's were built with automatics and the ~5200 rev limiter is there primarily to protect the stock torque converter which would balloon severely and probably fail at 6000. If you have a beefed up torque converter or a manual, you should be axle to set the limiter higher using a tuner - within the limits of the valve train, of course.

Yeah, I knew the Explorer V8's were auto only, didn't know they lowered the rev limiter for them, thanks :icon_thumby:

If you're running the stock Ex valve train, it isn't good for much more than 5200 anyway. If you have the stock Ex transmission and PCM, it shifts at maybe 4700~4900.

Yeah, I never run it that high anyways, I was just checking the RPM range from doing the tach mod to see if it was accurate. It never gets above 4K when I'm driving...
