resume help.

im currently trying to make a good professional looking resume.

i know microsoft office has templates but i can not figure out how to get to it or if there is a better formatted one i can get online.

im also having trouble with the objective and trying to word it and not sound like a dumbass.

any help would be greatly appreciated

I've written a few resumes over the years. How's this for an objective:
"Obtain meaningful, challenging employment utilizing my technical skills and abilities in a progressive company. "

Microsoft has quite a few templates you can download. I put a link below for you. I interview and hire people 6 to 10 times a year. If I could give any pointers they would be;

1 - Stay short and sweet. More than one page is really a waste of time. Most people aren't in it to read a novel.

2 - Don't give too much info. If you like baking cupcakes, that's great. But not something you need to put on a resume.

3 - Personalize the Objective for each company. This shows you are interested in their company, not just getting a job.

Three very solid points. Multipage resumes are one of my pet peeves. I'm not currently in a position where I interview/hire people but I have been in the past.

Slightly different than #3, I've customized resumes for each type of position I was applying for. Basically, depending on what position I'm applying for I would give them resume A, B, or C, etc. I kinda like this approach because it doesn't require you to make a new version of your resume for every job you apply for. For example, if you went to a career fair and were handing out resumes to prospective companies, you don't always know what companies are going to be there and have time to prepare a special resume for them, so give them A, B, or C, whichever fits.

Very good idea. I've had some obviously written for the food or retail industries. I'm in neither of those industries, so it's kind of like receiving spam mail to me.

and for templates its ez for microsoft word. just google "resume template" or add in microsoft somewhere and just try to find right one also google "resume examples". monster is a decent site for free resume building. you type in info and itll put it in good. i wouldnt recommend paying 250 for a resume 450 for an unbelieveable one. that just means theyll spend 1 hr for 250 on it and 2 hrs for 450 and call it better.
