Replacing Wheel Seals

Has anyone replaced their front wheel seals (on a '98 - '00 Ranger with the dreaded vacuum pulse hubs)? Mine are making a high-pitched whistle-like sound whenever I engage the 4x4.

What I need to find out is how big of a job this is, and what do I need to buy besides the wheel seals? I've read on some other threads that there may be some o-rings that I need to replace, and possibly the hub nut needs to be replaced? I'm trying to put together a parts list, but I'm struggling to find any useful info on what all I might need.

I had a hard time getting my PVH's off. It took two of us and several small screwdrivers and lots of patience. Don't break the hold-down tabs when removing them.

I've actually swapped those out already for the AVM manual hubs. But you are right......it's tricky getting all of those tabs unlocked at the same time! I used 6 jig-saw blades to get mine loose.

I replaced these seals when I swapped to the AVM hubs.

Basically, remove the AVMs, hub assemblies, and axleshaft. Then pop out the seal. Sand down the surface of the knuckle where the seal resides, lightly grease it, and then pop the new seal on. That's pretty much it.
