My credo
Crossed threads are tight threads.
I got one of those flat trailers decked with wood planks, that need replacing. They look like 2x6's.

Do I have to use "truck wood"?

Can I get away with heavily staining and or using deck paint on regular wood?

I would rather use the stack of lumber I have instead of buying more because its not truck wood....

Stain would be fine id say. Could mop the boards down with used oil too, that's free.

Pressure treated will last longer. But sealing will probably work fine.

I think so too, was gonna use linseed oil, but do have a bunch of random oil I will never use. I do have a bunch of exterior paint as well.

I'm fixing it for a local buddy in exchange for borrowing privileges. Probably work fine is plenty good enough lol.

Also how the heck do I go about getting the planks in the channels? do I cut em short to clear knocking em straight? do I start at one end, or in the middle?

I see myself getting stuck for sideways clearance trying to knock the last few planks in...

If you haven't bought the materials yet, rough cut oak boards are best. As far as treatment, that is going to be up to you. Some use used motor oil, others boiled linseed oil. Don't use anything that will make the wood slick. You want as much traction and roughness as you can get. If you bought the materials already, treatment remains the same.

Wood comes from trees.

I have material already and would rather not buy more. Not sure what kind of wood, but its reclaimed from an outdoor patio/deck. It already sorta painted, so I may just coat it again w/ deck o seal or some kind good exterior paint, unless I can strip the original paint and then treat it.

It’s probably pine then. Eh, the price was right and it will get the job done.

Never heard of “truck wood” until now. Oak is stronger and would be my preference. Its also Probably more expensive. A lot of trailers , these days, use pressure treated pine. Works fine.

Truck wood...
