2.5L ('98-'01) PSA: replacing O2 Sensor and Cleaning MAF Makes A Difference!

my Ranger has 250k miles on it. finally let the moths out of the wallet and replaced the O2 sensors and cleaned the MAF (mass air flow) detector, and wow! what a difference it made! if I had to guess, I would say it added 10-20% more power. has to be getting better mpg too. it was definitely worth it.

The O2 sensor literally eats itself away as part of the chemical reaction to generate a signal - so it is considered a wearing item... And over in GM land I found out my little '06 convertible's horrible gas mileage problem (like half the mpg of what my neighbor with an identical '07) is 99% of the time MAF dirty. I believe that Ford considers the O2 sensors life to be 100k (and here I am sitting at 105k). So absolutely I would agree clean that MAF and change the O2 sensors as part of a tuneup.... too bad the O2 sensors are a little spendy.

Not mention the sometimes difficulty with removal.
I have to replace four of them on my 02 Sport Trac and am not looking forward to it.
