I here so much bout those steering shafts going bad on stock and lifting rangers w/big tires, and mine was replaced before i bought it(its an 88'). I think the shaft in my buddys ranger is bad too from wat he tells me and its an 88' also.

Is there a way to make the shaft stronger or is there a stronger one that can be swapped in?

nothing that Im aware of off the shelf. you could make your own I guees.

solid rod, have the ends spilined and pick up a couple of the "u-joints"

but really there is not much of a problem(atleast I have never had any) problems with the stocker. they do get worn over time, but what dosent?....
