Replacing Front Diff Fluid IFS D35

Yeah....And I'll have that skid plate soon to protect it(superlift so the entire diff is exposed). I don't have to do it for quite some time though...Royal Purple ain't cheap. lol. I just don't do watersports anymore and after I raised the breathers, don't think anythings gonna get in anyway. lol.

Thanks for your insight.

where exactly should i drill and tap er?

Mine is just to the passenger side of the ring gear on the bottom of the diff.

on your sport trac? i'll think about doing this, sounds really convenient VS dropping the front diff. Just need to find somewhere to get a plug and somebody with a drill and tap kit.

On my 91 ranger...when it comes time to drop the fluid in the sport trac it will be getting the same treatment.

I grabbed a drain bolt from the 'help' section at Canadian Tire. IIRC it was an M10x1.25 thread on it.

Get a drain bolt with a rubber gasket, and just snug it up, as it is aluminum its not too hard to strip it out.

How's this for visual aid?

**This was dropped out during Superlift install. Kept it in there til after the lower control arms and knuckles were removed. This route is a little more work than you want if you're just changing fluid. lol.

Well i found something i didnt want to see when i went under there to look at the diff and take a picture =X.

Hey, yours leaks in the same spot mine does!

If you are planning to replace the seal, they are fairly cheap. I picked up all three from the Ford dealer.

well if ur pinion seal is leaking, what different places is it going to leak? lol, already replaced it, got it from autozone for like 10 bucks.

well those are different seals, not the pinion seal.... :icon_confused:

Mine leaks/ed at the pinion seal, like yous did, but it was also leaking on the drivers side cv seal.

1. Drive to Valvoline Quicky-Lube.
2. Pull truck inside. Tell lube guy to change the front diff lube.
3. Read newspaper while the lube guy sucks out the old lube with a pump and puts in fresh.
4. Pay $39.95 plus tax.
5. Drive home.

At that price it isn't worth the bother of doing it myself.

or buy a 2 dollar drain plug, drill it and tap it and buy some gear oil and fill er up for around 10-15 bucks yourself?
