My credo
Doing things wrong, until I get it right.
When I go to replace the needles on my cluster, should I mark them and replace them so that they read true when I put them back in?

For the electric speedometer you often need to do this: youtube.com/watch?v=WVz6ilGiTBY

Hook it up to AA battery and put needle on to read 72MPH, but test it before you remove the needle and use same battery when you put needle back on

I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING IT, but I set out on a long stretch of highway with no traffic, set the cruise at 55mph indicated by GPS, had my buddy steer the truck, and shoved the needle on at the 55mph mark. Worked for me..

This was after a cluster swap along with a tire size change. It's close enough at other speeds to not be any worry to me.

My needles are painted on...

Plug your cluster in and turn the key on, then set the needles at the zero point.

I've done this once or twice.
