Trying to replace the alternator on my 93 ranger. The bolts on the bottom of the alternator are too close to the frame to get my socket on them, and they are really on there. Vise grips haven't worked. Not sure where to go from here.

Welcome to TRS :)

What engine?

Guessing 2.3l since others are pretty easy to do

If you haven't ruined the heads with vice grips there is room to put a wrench on them.

Mine were cranked on, as well. Motor assemblers union didn't give 2 shits. So employees adjusted their own torque.

Vice grips, 2 hand tight, tap towards drivers side with hammer. (Looking up from bottom).

Take bolts with to home Depot, match up, enjoy easy installation of new alternator.

Why the hell is it not up top? Lol. Down low is where the bullshit air pump goes! Lol

I had to use vice grips on one as well. The other i rounded off with a socket. I had hell fixing that bolt. I wasn't too experienced then and it took some help from someone else to take the whole alternator bracket off to file the rounded alternator mounting bolt.. just to fix a loose stator wire
