replacing a fuel pump sending unit

get some quick disconnects from advance for the fuel lines,. the easiest way to get to it is to atke the bed off, its a royal pain in the kisser to drop the tank...personal experience

do i need to release he pressure if it has any?
also would i run in to any major wires under the bed?

1) Yes. Unplug the fuel pump inertia switch, and crank the truck. Let it run until it goes dead.

2)No. Unplug the taillight connector, probably behind the license plate.

Get a T55 bit for the bed bolts.

what are somme thing i need to do befor i replace it

if you are taking the bed off what i did is hit the bolts with penetrating oil from underneath. you can get at 4or 5 of them. I would buy 2 torx 55 in case you break one and you need a breaker bar or a pipe for your rachet. ford wanted $16 each for new bolts. I purchased them online for about $2 each I got regular head bolt. the stringest one I think it is 10.8 grade the sizes i needed were 12mx1.75x100mm( quantity 4) 12mx1.75x120mm(quantity 2). as stated in an earlier post there is a connector that you disconnect for the lights it is tucked in the frame at the bumper.you might want to get some new hoses for the fuel filler while you are at it.

one last thought are you sure you did the Diagnosis correctly and that you need a new pump?

well for about a year ask around ,and everyone said that is most likely that.
ask for the pump it work fine cause i drive the truck almost everday .

also i have a 4.0 supercab all the book say 19.5 gallons for my truck.

would pulling the fuel pump relay do the same thing as unpluging the inertia switch

Does a 2001 have a fuse? My 94 has a relay under the hood...

I just unplugged the inertia switch. Don't even have to open the hood or the fusebox.
