I am in the middle of replacing the valve cover gaskets on my 2003 2.3L Ranger and made the mistake of cleaning the aluminum valve cover by soaking it in LA's Totally Awesome, which has caused oxidation. The oxidation is mostly on the outside, but there is some on the inside and I am not comfortable with re-installing that on my engine if I can't clean it off and stop it from continuing to form. (Aluminum oxide granules are very hard and fine and would cause wear for sure.) So, I'm trying to find a new valve cover, but the original has been discontinued. There is a plastic version that some online sellers say will fit and others say will not. The part number is 4L5Z-6582-DA. I believe it is intended for 2004 - 2011 models, BUT I think it may fit if I use correct gaskets and bolts for it, and I have seen all of these parts sold together in one box. Has anyone here successfully installed this cover or its predecessor (4L5Z-6582-CA, also plastic I think) on a 2001-2003 engine?
