Replacement Steering Shaft?

Does anyone know of a replacement steering shaft that doesn't have that big rag coupling in it.

The rag coupling takes up a lot of space and rubs on my headers sometimes. I'd rather have UV joints on both ends.

I asked the local drive-shaft outfit to make me one, but they wouldn't touch it once they found out that it was for steering.

Liability issue I guess.

I have heard of people using a Aerostar joint to smooth it out after a bodylift.

Some years of them used an actual u-joint.

Steering joints

I would think yo could put the rag joint at the steering rod near the firewall where there's more room.....

OR.......get some type of sliding extension shaft like the guys said....


you definately want some kind of movement in the extension shaft so that the joints dont work themselves aloose from the frame flexing and the cab movement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep this works great as I did it on my 94 Ranger to. The Flaming River is some nice stuff but check out the prices. I have less then 20 dollars into doing this Areostar/Explorer steering shaft setup and it was easy to do.

Yup. You got it. I modified the mounting holes so that it would mount vertical.

Thanks guys! I've never really liked those holders, but now I've looked, and I've seen the vertical ones (like yours is). Looks really slick.
