Well, I'm going to Delurk as I need some help ! :shok: I had a VERY LUCKY accident last night getting on the Beltway/Silver Spring ,MD and now I need a new passenger side Fender and a new Bumper. I'm not even complaining because the damage is pretty minor, ( my lights still work even! ) and I'm not even sore, but I kissed the Jersey wall pretty sweetly. As near as I can tell, I hit an oilslick. I'm a good, experienced driver, with Military training, as well as real Defensive Driving training, so I'm not a dummy, but I lost complete control for maybe 5 seconds, and fishtailed 4 times and kissed the wall on the last time (fortunately, as I had slowed alot by then). I had entered the on ramp, which is very sharp, so I braked down real slow for that, np, hit the straight part and was just starting to accelerate, still in the merge lane, when without warning I started into a lateral slide, drivers side front, and started the fishtails. Didn't feel like Hydroing at all, although the conditions were wet, but not actively raining at that moment, and no appreciable water on the roadsurface. :icon_confused: This was a very short distance, too, 1/8 mile maybe, .... At least one driver swerved and missed me at the slides beginning as it pushed me into the traffic lanes a bit, maybe halfway into the first lane and merge lane I was in, so things could have been a HELLUVA Lot worse. Had someone nailed me at highway speed, and drove us into the Jersey Wall (really, a fixed retaining wall at that particular section) we all likely would have been hurt quite seriously, and no doubt my Ranger would have been totaled, I'm pretty certain. :icon_surprised:

So, if you've followed me so far, what I need is, Where is the BEST place to get replacement sheet metal, New? If I'm going to replace it, I want the best I can get, and don't mind Brand New versus Junkyard, so if anyone can point me to a good, reliable source of OEM quality sheet metal, I would be forever grateful. Found a place on ebay that seemed reasonable, and of course theres always good ol' JC Whitney, but I really want OEM quality. This was (IS!) a pretty cherry truck I got from a Buddy, it was well kept and no rust (Rare here in the Mid Atlantic!) and I would like to keep my baby that way! Its a 1992 Standard Cab XLT Ranger, it had 90k on it when I got it last August ! :icon_thumby: Thanks for any help in advance, and since I'm already delurked , I just want to say I love TRS, it has already saved me lots of time and money since I got my Ranger, I've used all sorts of tips and advice from here over in the Tech section, but this is my Cherry Pop on the Board! Cheers All! :icon_cheers:

Certafit (spelling?)is always a good place to go also. They have done me well. They usually sell their sheet-metal primed (in black). I have never bought it painted, so i dont know if they actually do that. Honestly, you can buy perfect, brand new fenders for about $30 each.

My cousin bought a 2003 intrepid (low mileage)that was crashed in the front and he bought 2 fenders and a hood for under $250.

If you plan on painting it (which you will have a hard time finding the right colors for cheap) Certafit is the way to go.

LMC sells aftermarket bumpers?

I reckon. The link shows them in their catalog. :D

And those are some HIGH prices on trademotion.

I don't ever recall seeing any oem parts that were cheap to buy. I'm pretty sure that place there is as cheap as you can find new oem parts. They claim their prices are 10% over cost.

Show me one thing from either of those links that's aftermarket. It's all to OEM standards.

And he just wanted new REPLACEMENT metal, not OEM Ford sheet metal.

About half the price of the ones on trademotion.

All of the parts on the LMC page are aftermarket parts. They look identical to OEM parts, but they aren't, and the quality is not as good as OEM as far as fitment, guage, and corrosion resistance. Aftermarket doesn't necessarily mean that it's styled different as in body kits, prerunner fenders, etc. It simply means that it's not genuine OEM parts. As far as the aftermarket "exact" replacement parts, there are different grades to it available in some instances.

The only way to get OEM quality parts is to buy OEM parts, period.

Yep, I bought my valance and front bumper from them for my truck. Decent stuff, but it's not OEM or OEM quality. The parts you linked are of the better grade of aftermarket available, so they would be fine i'm sure...but they are most definitely not Genuine Ford Parts. There's a difference.

He wasn't asking for Genuine Ford, he was asking for Replacements, not expensive items that will do the same thing.

See below. :)

But your right, he does say he want's the best he can get. I just skimmed through and saw he was looking for replacements.

Why are you making such a big deal out of this?

I'm not making a big deal of it. You're the one who's making a big deal of it. You say he asked for replacement sheet metal, not expensive OEM parts. If you look in my first response, I gave him links to both aftermarket AND OEM parts for his perusal. That covered both choices. He made it clear that he's aware of Auto/Car Parts Warehouse (eBay) & JC Whitney. Plenty of sources had been covered depending on how much he wanted to spend. You're the one that interjected. And as far as I can tell, we're discussing this in a rational manner. I'm just making it clear, because you don't seem to understand, that because a part looks like original equipment, doesn't mean it is by any stretch of the imagination. Again, he was looking for OEM quality. I maintain that the only way to get OEM quality parts is to buy OEM parts. You have to buy them from Ford. He asked for OEM quality parts. That's the only place to source them from. I would have loved to have OEM parts for my front end conversion, but I didn't want to pay their dear prices for them. Then Ford does things like making small trim clips that you need unavailable. I need the trim clips for the side of my valance, and you can't buy them from Ford seperately. You have to buy the valance and they come w/ them. So to get a dollars worth of trim clips, you have to buy a $350 item. :annoyed:

Your the one getting all defensive about this whole thing.

But I've had enough of this thread jacking-schoolgirl drama. I'm out of this thread.

Hey there. If you're still interested in advisment on how to proceed on this job: You definatly get what you pay for as far as new OEM or New After Market. I've been selling salvage parts a wrecking yard for about 3 years and have been doing body and paint work for about 7 years. OEM- if you can find it is going to be the best. Ford has most likley obsoleted all the parts for your truck, as they have mine ('93). I work for LKQ, the largest salvage corperation in the country. www.LkqOnline.com www.lkqcorp.com You can find a yard near you on the lkqcorp site, and see if they have anything for your truck. I know in Phoenix, AZ we don't have any of them, but it's a different market in VA. If you have any questions on the repair, I fixed, and now drive the truck in my avatar everyday. I got the trcuk from a friend of mine who center punched a tree with it at about 40mph. L8ER- Josh

There is NO replacement for OEM parts. Trust me, I fit this aftermarket crap to cars every day. Those of you who say aftermarket is the same quality as OEM, hasn't had to ship back thousands of aftermarket parts that the insurance companies are insistent in "trying", then ultimately ordering OEM parts, cause the customer isn't happy with the quality of the parts.

State Farm insurance had a lawsuit going with all the major aftermarket automotive "crash" parts manufacturers for quite some time, over their lack of quality. They ended up settling out of court. State farm insurance, to this day, will not allow aftermarket parts to be used in the repair of their policyholders cars.

I would personally take a part from the junkyard any day of the week over an aftermarket part.
