Hey guys,
Is there a direct "relatively easy" transmission swap(i.e. different) for the a4ld in a 1990 ranger 2.9L 2wd. Or is the rebuild the a better option. I've been scanning the tech papers and there seems to be a "lot" of upgrades to make this a good transmission .
I'm pretty good with a wrench but have never taken an automatic transmission apart before, manual trans changing clutches and such sure ,rejeted and sync the carbs on my bike yeah ,engines easy. But Auto trans have always been voodoo so I was thinking a complete swap maybe or if It's a rebuild then I want to KNOW what I'm asking for if I pay to have it done .

So opinions ,suggestions ,is there a compiled list of recommended upgrades for the a4ld.

thanks for the help:icon_thumby:

Hardway(handle is because it seems that no matter what path I choose ,it's always the hardway)

you con't make the A4LD much better, in my opinion.

If you want to "upgrade" swap to a manual transmission. The hardest part about the swap is a toss up between getting the exhuast bolts out, and swaping the pedals. Which, the exhuast bolts you have to do anyway to get your tranny out.

You can find alot of info on this swap as well.

Hey
I am having issues with A4LD on my 94 2WD Ranger. The engine will surge about 500 RPMs before going into 1st. I was thinking the same thing, replace or rebuild. I am slowly cleaning out the inside of the tranny with fluid changes. It still runs so I'm okay for now.

didn't autofab have a kit to "convert" the back of a cologne V6 to a small block patter enabling us to use a small block transmission ........ such as an AOD?

i think transdapt has a kit for a 700r4 from a 2.8 chevy
