I'm restoring the engine of my 1986, 2.3L,5 speed Ranger pickup w/ 79,500 mi. Need to know practicality of replacement of fuel injectors as well as the practicality and priority of replacing its various sensors.
New @ this. Any help I can get will be greatly appreciated!!!:dunno:

injectors will be expensive, I recently had some injector issues on my Tracker and found an injector service shop locally that will clean and flow test injectors for like $25 each and have access to used flow tested injectors that are a fraction of the price of new. That should be as good as new for a fraction of the price unless they're really cheap on rockauto or something...

Sensors pretty much either work or don't, if it runs good, I wouldn't worry about replacing sensors.

after you take your fuel rail out of the manifold have someone crank the engine over while you look at the injector spray then take the plastic cap and the three o rings off the injectors be careful cause its easy to break the plastic cap and soak all injectors in sea foam for 12/24 hrs after the soaking is done put just a bit of oil on the o rings and pop them back in the oil will save you alot of trouble

:shok:doing this ANY exposed electrical short will cause a fire from the gas.I used a gallon of diesel so it wouldn't ignite to check then just pull rail off and used fuel pump to empty tank.:icon_bounceblue:

You will not cause a fire using sea foam to soak your injectors I do it all the time it will not damage the electronics inside them either and when watching for fuel spray aim the injectors up iv been doing this for years now on every car I own or when I clean someone elses injectors ask anyone that knows how to work on cars

And inorder to drain your tank with the pump you have to jump your relay but draining your tank is completely unneeded in this situation

Caution!

I NEVER said soaking in sea foam will cause a fire it's the spraying of GAS and the VAPORS it makes I'm WARY of. I KNOW how to work on cars "Look in my album's I built ALL of them" and have visited friends IN the burn unit for a month you keep rolling the dice and you WILL get snake eyes. Also true you wouldn't have to drain the tank completely of diesel but I did.I just want people to use CAUTION when using gas.You approach it as it CAN'T happen I approach it as it CAN!:annoyed: GOOD LUCK to you.

Check out Mr. Injector on eBay. He sells a kit to "rebuild' the injectors for $20 or so. Basically it's new orings and screens. There are videos on you tube that will show you how to clean and check them. Don't buy new ones unless you have to.
