I have a 94 Ranger with the pre-VATS key cylinder, its the same cylinder Ford used in the late 80s. After all these years the cylinder is falling apart, it twists in odd ways and at times and twists in a way where it is difficult to get the key in or out.
I heard that half the key is cut for the ignition and the other half is cut for the door locks. If I understand correctly, I need to have new keys cut with half matching the new ignition cylinder, the other half cut to match the old door cylinders. Is this right?
Basically my question is, if I buy a replacment cylinder, is it possible to still use the same key for the doors and ignition?
