ok so the 2.5 was running like crap again.
i took it to the mechanic, since the CEL was on.
scanned it and gave 3 codes: one for the IAC and 2 for the water temp sensors.
since the IAC got cleaned like a month ago i replaced it, along with the 2 water temp sensors.
today i tested the truck, started it cold, idles like new, until 2 minutes, the CEL went on again, scanned it and the same water temp code shows up.

cleaned the codes, and CEL went on again, same code: water temp sensor 1 on bank 1
we cleaned it 4 times and went on again. even disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, once the engine is running it comes on.
what else could be wrong here? :icon_confused:
is there a chance that the sensors are misplaced?
or is there something not working, so they wont work too?

I dont understand the above quote. what is water temp sensor 1 on bank 1. it looks like you have the proper different sensors on the housing......they have the different nubs on them so they you can connect the correct wires to them

i cant remember the code#, what i meant is if there is a chance that the sensors are misplaced, not the connectors.

i don't think it matters if the connector is hooked up to the right sensor I dont think it matters what hole it is screwed into.they both are in the same spot of the housing

Is your cooling system working correct can you feel a cool sp[ot on the radiotor after the engine is hot and how old is the thermostat

cooling system works fine, the gauge works fie too, ima check for the cool spot on the rad right now. the thermostat is the oem unit, never replaced it.

i just checked, the engine is hot, jst shut it off after a long drive
the left side (where the cap is) is a bit cooler than the right side

maybe the two sensors need to be reversed as in one tells the computer it is warming up (bypass) and the other shows the temp as the thermostat opens try reversing the positions and disconnect the battery for 30 minutes maybe you didnt erase the hard faults all the way then drive it around at medium speeds and bring it all the way up to temp then retest. You have to reset the computer whenever you change or clean a sensor or it will run on old values. On my jeep you need to remove the positive terminal on the battery and ground it to the negative term for 30 secs to drain the capacitors in the computer so leave the neg terminal off the battery for a while and let the computer completely reset the values and as you drive it it will adjust to the way you drive.

yea the radiator sounds fine try changing sensor positions and disconnect the battery for 30 minutes

i think we already switched em from position, yeah the connectors are different between em and the grey connector only fits the grey sensor, same with the other one.

If you dont know if you tried It cant hurt anything to try resetting the computer longer and reversing the sensors. Try the sensors first the wire looks kinna stretched going to the one in the back and the second pic has some frayed tape on the harness check the wires for shorts. pull the sensors and see if they are ported differert the one in the front has a freeze plug on the side of the housing. do they both go to the hose going into the radiator, is the bypass working properly, does the temp guage rise as the engine warms up or just register as the t-stat opens. Maybe a trip to a different shop will solve the issue GL
