Hi I was just recently given a 93 Ranger by my father in law but apparently he didn't believe in coolant :( He had mentioned that the heater didn't work so i started replacing the thermostat due to the heat issues but when i took off the housing noticed that it was all COMPLETELY RUSTED so i decided to also replace it as well as the heater core and hoses (all full of rust :( ) im looking for opinions on weather i should change out my water pump or not. The nipple where the Bypass hose connects to the water pump shows a lot of rust, but im not sure if the interior is also rusted. If it is rusted could it re clog the heater core and cause the thermostat to stick again? or will all this new stuff not be too affected by it? TITLE: REPLACE H2O PUMP sry didnt look at spelling

I have worked on two cars in the last year that only had water ran in them. One was so bad the freeze plugs had to be replaced cause they were leaking and the other the radiator blew up. I dont think changing the pump will do to much there is still going to be alot of rust in the block that is going to get loosened up with the new coolant. If I were you Id put it back together and flush it. Then run it a while and get it flushed again. It will take a long time to get it cleaned out. The cars I worked on are beaters so the owners didnt worry much about a little rust in the system. Both are running normal temps now so you sould be ok if you cant get it all out but Id try my best to get it cleaned out if it was my car.

I'd replace it.

If you decide not to, at LEAST run some flush through that entire system.

Ok I guess im gonna take off the pump and see how bad it looks inside if its real bad ill replace it, if not ill just clean it and put it back. Thanks fellas
