how long should it take to replace a clutch in an 88 4wd ranger with 2.9 engine. the clutch is slipping in 4th and 5th gear and i am planning on selling it cheap.
what is the down side of not replacing the pressure plate or having the flywheel machined????
the truck runs ok as i drive it 130miles a day but the clutch slip is getting worse

it all depends on your knowledge and motivation to finish the project. Me and a buddy did a clutch job on his 88 ranger 4wd in a day- pulled the trans unbolted the flywheel and hauled ass to the local auto parts shop for flywheel resurfacing, flew back to the house and put it all back in. we started on a sat. morning and by 5 or 6 that nite it was all over. As for if you were not to resurface the flywheel seeing as you clutch is slipping i would guess that the surface is not true and would need resurfacing. If you are spending the time to pull it all apart just put a new pressure plate, throw out bearing, clutch disc, pilot bearing and depending on the condition of your slave id replace it aswell. Better get it all fixed the first time then have to pull it again because you wanted to go the "cheap" route on things.
