ok so i have an 85 ranger, 2wd, 2.0L.
the engines torn down, and i got new pistons on the way (number 3 had a pretty bad detanation and was blown all to hell), iam at a stand still though... my buddy at my local shop said their just pressed in...but i seen retainer clips, and pin clips, and cant find anything on any site about removing the dam things...any body got ideas?
iam getting stock pistons from Ford, nothing fancy, just gotta get the pins out.

have a machinist do it. they press it out with a drift
and heat the end of the rod to put it back in.
you heat it blue and you only have one chance to
get it centered. if you overheat it, you ruin it.

The wrist pins on a 2.8 should be pressed in. If there are clips or retainers, the pistons were modified. (Pressed in pins are preferred by most people)
If you have a destroyed piston, you probably have a rod that needs reconditioning. Take them to a machinist to at lest check for twist.

pins that are held in by clips are called "free" floters and are better than press. you beter check and make sure you orderd the rite pistons and pins thay are presed from the factory and you might have aftermarket rods or sumthing.
OH yeah your rods are numberd so dont mix them up.

yeah when i rebuilt my 88 2.3 I had 3 cracked pistond.I orderd speedpros from summit. I presed the pines out my self and when my new pisons came i barowed a "rod oven" to heat the ends of the rods and you hafe to be fast with puting the pin it its guna cool down fast!
