Hey guys, how hard is it to take off those stickers on the back of the truck, you know the one that says "MAZDA."

I'm going to put some chrome emblems on in the old sticker's place. I'm also going to look into a Mazda emblem for the center of the tailgate.

Does the sticker just peel off or do I need to apply something to it?

Thanks.

I peeled mine of using a razor blade to lift the edge then pull the rest, if it tears then repeat the process. If any glue residue is left on the tailgate you can get adhiesive trim remover to take it off.

Don't use a razor blade. You may wind up cutting the paint. Use a hair dryer to heat the sticker and peel it away from the surface. WD40 or mineral spirits will make short work of the residual adhesive.

I have a lot of experience at that, I took off the mazda logo form my tailgate and the ugly design mazda used to put on the doors and bed. Just use a blow dryer with hot air, and it peels right off. You just have to let the decal get warm and it peels right off. Then I used Goo-gone to get off any additional glue residue that was left on. It took me about 25 minutes all together.. You might need to wax it a couple times so the paint blends in. Mine is a '97 and I took the logos off in 2007 and the paint sill blended perfectly after a couple waxes, you can't even tell there used to be logos. Since yours is a 2006, you'll be just fine. Peel it off, goo-gone the rest of the glue, wash it then wax it and you'll be golden.

Thanks a ton guys.

Since my B-day is coming up I'll let the chrome lettering be my present. I'll probably do the job this weekend, I'll give some before and after pics ;)

BTW, what do you guys think would look better, placing a chrome Mazda "M" emblem on the center of the tailgate or placing a chrome Mazda "Mazda" emblem in the lower right hand side(where the old "Mazda" sticker used to be).

I'm also debating on sticking the word "Sport" in place of the old Mazda sticker...

Definately in the center. That would look the best.

Took my stickers of using a hair dryer and an old credit card.

Best to do it with a friend, get him or her to hold the hair dryer and heat up the area you are peeling of first and just slowly start peeling it with an old credit card in a corner. When you get it off just put some gasoline on a rag and rub the residue off. You won't even notice it was there unless your paint has faded a little around it.

There is a tool for removing decals and trim tape. I pulled the wornout trim from a Blazer and used it to remove the foam trim tape. It's a rubber disk that you put on an arbor and chuck it into a drill. It takes off the glue and all. Works really well. Unfortunately it costs about $30 to $40. It works like a gum eraser. Different companies make them but you can get them from an auto body paint supply. But if there are budget concerns I would agree that a blow drier and old credit card will do if you have the patience.

I've done this on at least 6 different vehicles- de-badging, removing pinstripes, logos, decals, trim molding, etc. and I always use the same method.

1) Wash surface/dry surface
2) Park in sun
3) Evenly heat area with blow dryer
4) Peel with finger nail or rubber putty spreader, reheat as necessary
5) Wash surface/dry surface
6) Remove any remaining residue with microfiber towel/spray on Stoner's Tarminator
7) Wash surface/dry surface
8) Clay bar surface
9) Wash surface/dry surface
If ghosting- machine polish with polishing compound, if not;
10) Wax/seal surface
