Removing previous owners interior paint?

Hey Everyone,

Just a quick question.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a solvent thats safe to remove paint from things like the vinyl dashpad and the plastic pieces like the pillars.

The previous owner painted (probably without prepping) the interior and now its all peeling away. The thing is, under the chipping paint, IT LOOKS FINE! So I may or may not paint over it. If I do, I'll be sure to do it right...

So what can I use on these surfaces. Would something like OOPS! work? Maybe very fine sandpaper? Wouldnt that be too rough??

Thanks..I tried searching but I had no luck.

Try taking compressed air to the pieces. You might be able to get a lot of it off that way. You never know.

sand paper will scratch the panels, no matter how fine.
i did that with soapy water and a soft cloth. took a while but the panles were intact.

Good point. I'll give it a shot!

How did it effect the grain of the plastic. You know the texture on the plastic? Was it tough to get it even? I'm just wondering how it'd look painted after beating it up like that with the textured surface.

i tried sanding and since it was textured it got a bit scratched.
then i tried soapy water, really soapy
i let them sit in water and then rubbed with the cloth
took me a while but i could remove it

You'll have to get a REALLY big container (bathtub) but we who build model cars and pooch the screw will submerge the plastic parts in Simple Green, Purple Power etc..... It's safe for the plastic and will eat paint like it's candy. The paint will soften up and all but fall off the parts.

And on the subject of using a bathtub for this:

"You might be a Redneck if your wife yells from upstairs sayin Honey! Get this transmission out of the tub! I wanna take a bath!!"

lmao :icon_rofl:
i had to work with small parts, so they fitted on a small container
