Im removing the tranny from my 1998 4x4 Ranger, 4.0 OHV , 5R55E tranny
I have everything else loose except the 2 top tranny bolts and the tranny lines ?
It looks like it will clear the Y exhaust pipe, hope i dont have to remove it.
the 2 top bolts i cant get my hand into them.
someone have any ideas ?

only time I've done it on a 98ish I used a stubby wrench from the top.. it worked, slowly, painfully...

Unbolt the trans mount, jack the trans up to the floor, then reach around the engine. I use my long gearwrenchs.

I used all my extensions and a swivel to get them out.

Sent from the road while ignoring traffic

If you drop the trans crossmember (still attached to the tail of the trans) and prop it down toward the ground, the front of the engine rotates up (so watch in the fan shroud and the AC lines). That opens up plenty of gap to get those two bolts out.

I typically use a 13mm gearwrench to break them loose, then a 1/4" drive ratchet/socket/extensions to run the rest of the bolt threads out.

If your T-case is still on, its weight alone will work without a prop.

i removed crossmember, let it down and used about 3 ft of extensions and got em from the bottom. painful though.
