just had my ujoints replaced on my driveshaft and when i removed my driveshaft i lost some fluid and i need to know what type of fluid it is and how to add the fluid that was lost it came out of the transmission as i pulled out the driveshaft

its a 92 ranger 2wheel drive 5 speed and also how can i tell what type of tranny i have

the fluid that came out had a clear grayish tint to it

it should be red. its supposed to mercon V ATF

No, It's supposed to be Mercon IV.

There's no such thing as Mercon IV. There's only Mercon and Mercon V. Oh yea and Mercon SP. You can use only Mercon or Mercon V in your transmission.

Oh for christs sake, Just use MERCON! Why the heck are you guys mucking up the thread with random babble about different types of ATF? He just needs to know what fluid to REFILL it with after DRAINING THE REST OF IT.

Wow.... Now that he is thoroughly f-in confused....

Fill it with Mercon after you drain the gray nasty stuff the rest of the way out.

Make sure to clean off the magnet on the drain plug first.

Oh yeah, make sure the fill plug will come out before you drain the tranny.

Per Ford Tsb: Mercon V

Goddamnit we've covered this before. Mercon V causes a loss of shift quality in the older M5ODs, ford has been playing games. I appologize for my previous mistake, all these ATF names get confusing. The fluid is now marked as Dex/Merc by most oil companies.

As stated, use plain old mercon ATF in it. Drain it first as it sounds like it needs it badly anyway.
