Is it possible to take the egr system out of my truck and it still run ok? basically just a random thought but curious anyway.

I know it will throw a code if the ecu doesn't see it. The other thing is the hole in the intake. I really don't care for the way Ford did that.

But besides all of that, why would you want to? Other than being a pain in the butt to work around, it doesn't hinder anything.

I did. Swapped in the entire 93 engine ecu and harnesses.

I know lots of people who know little to nothing about cars decry the EGR system as awful and horrible and akin to making your engine breath it's own farts, but it really isn't that horrible. It lowers emissions and bumps highway economy, and on a gas engine that is running properly it does not add greatly to coking/carbon buildup in the top end.

The only time the EGR system will cause you any true issues is if the valve fails completely and allows full flow all the time, because you will never get the engine started.

My egr developed a leak on my old 97 ranger 4.0. I just welded the hole on the manifold and made a block off plate for the top. Worked perfect for me. I can't remember if it was throwing a code or not.
