hey guys, got a few questions for the general population here.

I'm looking to install an amp to power some door speakers in my 94' Ext. cab Ranger, and am more or less curious as to where you guys or what you guys used to run your remote wire off of, or from.

Thanks for the help guys, and just remember, "if it's to loud, you're to old."

If you have an aftermarket headunit then the wiring harness with it has a spot for the remote wire...usually is labeled and is blue.

I usually hook the remote wire to the power ant. wire. That is if you have a wire for power ant.

that can cause issues, some HU will shut off the power ant wire when you switch from FM to CD use the blue remote wire.

orrr the cig lighter if it shuts off with the truck.

I just wired a red wire from the cig lighter with a switch.

Works like a charm, Shuts off with the truck.

Wire it to the ignition wire at the radio.

The cig lighter on my truck is live all the time, so check if yours is too before using it. The best way to do it is use the dedicated wire on your head unit. If you don't have a wire on yours, you can use pretty much any wire in the truck that is only live when the ignition is on or in the accessory position.

You could simply run the wire to the battery and put a toggle switch on it, but you would have to remember to turn it off when you leave the truck, or you might get a dead battery.

Because of that, I would do as I said before and hook it to a "keyed" wire, but ALSO put a toggle switch on it, so your amp isn't needlessly on when the head unit is turned off while you're driving.

hey guys thanks for all the info. The HU i'm gonna use is an older Eclipse 5341R. it's got an accessory wire in the harness, which i would assume is the same as remote lead. so going off of this info, i'll probably just see if using the acc. lead works, if not, the ignition well work great! again, thanks for your help guys.

run with a relay. you can run it off the head unit but when you have more than one amp in a audio system you will want to have it on a relay on its own system ;)
