does a 2001 suppose to have the keyless entry remote? if so where can i get one short of going to a dealer?

It isn't per say supposed to have one the factory as it might not have been installed. But if it was installed at the factory then you can easily find out.

One of these 2 ways will tell you if you have factory installed keyless entry.
Turn the ignition key back and forth from the off postion to the on position 8 times. Make sure the locks are in the unlock position before you start. Once you have reached the 8th time leaving the key in the on position, and the locks are in the unlock position, the locks should cycle telling you a transponder is ready to be programmed. If that does not work after the 8th time then try cycling the ignition key 5 time instead of 8. If neither works then your truck does not have keyless entry. If you do have keyless entry and you have transponders that are not programmed to the truck all you have to do is after the 8th time and the locks have cycled. hit the lock button of the transponder and you have programmed it. If you have multiple transponders then you need to hit the lock button of each before you end the programming period. Once that is done simply turn the key off and make sure everything works.
