Remington 870, jamming?

Shoot the big red X You cant go wrong with federal. Also I dont know if Hornady makes a shotgun shell, but you cant piss on a turtle without hearing good things about their ammo.

It's called over expansion. Cheap shells have a tendency to expand too far and lodge themselves in the chamber. Primarily the brass portion, and more common on the high brass shells.

It could also be burrs or other defects in the chamber itself. This would explain why it would happen with better ammo...

Ammo does affect how the gun opperates, even if it's a pump gun...

well im just going on my experence, i seemed to have left my PHD in gunology in a back pack i threw away a few years ago.
ive never had a problem with cheep shells in my 870's... i have in a bolt action .22 i got from walmart but thats for like 50 bucks and i beleive the shel extractors were shot.... and thats expected.

I love winchester AA's. I've shot and reloaded thousands. They're easy as tits to reload, they crimp well, and never lose their shape no matter how many times you fire and reload them. Just load them however you want...

If you don't reload, or just don't want to (it takes some time and a bit of cash obviously) just buy them in boxes. Not really any more expensive than any other shell, and the functionality/quality is perfect. Can't go wrong.

I would love to reload, but I don't have the money or space to for the equipment. So I keep my brass and turn those in for a rebate on my next purchases.

Not to thread jack, but can you reload (without problems), those low brass shells that have #7 1/2-9 shot with let's say #4-6? I was wondering because between me and dad we may go through 1000 shells a weekend and reload them, but they are all low brass bird shot. If I can get away from having to pay for the high brass ones i'd be happy.

Got some different ammo. Academy had a good selection, but only a few select shells for just practice without going too much over $7 a box/25. One thing I noticed, I took a magnet to those that look brass base to find that they were actually steel. But I will still give it a try. Another thing that I noticed upon closer inspection. On the Winchester Western target and AA SS Sporting Clays, there is an every so slight buldge near the top of the brass base. I wonder if that maybe the problem. Since it looks like the wadding is crushed in there.

Ammo to try:
Remington ShurShot Heavy dove (steel base)
Winchester Western Target and Field load (steel base, jams)
Remington Premier Nitro Sporting Clays (brass base)
Winchester AA SS Sporting Clays (brass base)

MentalBreakDown, I would think you could reload with #6 shot. Since Remington makes the ShurShot in a low brass base with a #6 shot (I actually bought one to give a try). Don't know about the rest.
