Remembering September 11, 2001

I was in my fifth grade class room. People were talking about the Twin Towers that morning. I really didn't know what that was until I got home. Turned the t.v. on and found out that there had been a terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York city. I watched the aftermath and saw the part where the second tower fell live. I'll never forget that day.

I was in my 10th grade English class. We turned on the TV after the first plane hit. 20 minutes after the 2nd plane hit everyone was sent home from school. Alot of anger and agression is still in me to this day the fact that it was not only such a huge attack against americans but just the fact that it took place on american soil. The place known to be safe.

August of 2008 I finally enlisted in the US Coast Guard, figured it was my time to help to do my part and be one of the last lines of defense to protect our borders. Been in officially since February of 2009. I wouldn't have traded anything in the world. Met some of the best friends of my life, seen more places than I could of imagined going and met my wife who I have been recently married to (2 weeks now).

I strive to be the best that I can at what I do and plane to stay in til retirement or longer if possible. I started off being stationed in Cape May, NJ on the USCGC Vigorous a 210' cutter for 2 1/2 years. And as of this August am now stationed in Port O'Connor, TX

I'll never forget. Never.

I was going to ITT at the time (big mistake) and I was running late that morning so I didn't watch any TV. I also seldom listen to the radio, so I didn't find out until I got to class. My buddy says "who do you think did it?" to me. I said "did what?". He said "I think them *%)#$ing terrorists did it". I said again "did what?". Then the instructor turned on the TV which revealed all. I remember the burning sensation I felt as the story unfolded throughout the next few hours. I've never been more sad, but proud at the same time.

I wish this country could always be the way it was in the following days and weeks afterwards. I've never felt like the country was more bonded at any other time. It would be really nice to feel that again right now as the country is in literal disarray. Unfortunately, it just may take another tragedy of that proportion to refocus everyone on what is most important. Life and the One who gave it to us.

I actually got to work about quarter of nine that morning. The shop where I worked opened at nine. I was standing outside when my boss pulled up and said that a plane hit the WTC. The first thought through my head was that a prop plane got lost in the fog and hit the tower. Like what had happened to the Empire State building. But then I looked up and noticed that there wasn't a cloud in the sky. Something wasn't just right but I didn't know what at the time. I put the thought out of my head and got to work. Next thing I knew the radio announcer came on and said that a second plane had hit the second tower. To this day I can still feel the helplessness of not being able to do something. Fast forward a few years and my neighbor and I were talking, he was a first responder/EMT/firefighter before the township where we live closed the local fire station, and he told me that he was there pulling bodies out of the rubble. And the pain and hurt on his face told me that he was really there and wasn't bullshitting the whole story. He got that thousand yard stare on his face after awhile. I saw in his face the helplessness I was feeling on 9/11.

Just copy paste, save to file(USB/CD) and bring to a photo store and have it print on photo paper, or do it yourself on your own printer. Just make sure to copy the enlarged photo and not the small one so it isn't bad resolution.

I don't forget what I was doing or where I was, but I don't think about back then. I just know that when I wake up, at some point during the day I won't look at the clock for hours. Then when I do, it'll be 9:11 AM/PM. It's just something our era won't forget, as every era has something. The world will always have disaster, as long as we have men and women with the balls to react, we will always land on our feet.

I remember being in 7th grade. We were not told about any of this. We went through school a full day, no teacher or any faculty saying one thing. A lot of kids were getting picked up from school shortly after the hits and those that were in school, still didn't know. My dad wanted to take me out and bring me home, but my mom said I was better off in school. When I got home, I just remember the replays of the towers over and over on the news. Who could forget?

i celebrated this one by flying in from reno to detroit....which had some small scare but i thought a fitting way to exercise my freedom which costs us so dearly in blood.

i was working for a supplier for honda at the time (still do, but a different supplier now) we were at honda doing a sort on some suspect parts (rust) when we were leaving the guys at the q.a. office were showing us footage on their laptops, i really thought they were trying to pull some sort of prank over on us. on the way home we were listining to radio news about it all, about 1/2 way home the station lost signal for some reason, i remember being really frightened. the location in pennsyvania my family had been to just the year before. i remember hearing alan jackson's "where were you when the world stopped turning, on that september day" for the first time, that song was in my head all day sunday, though i cant recall the last time ive actually heard it. i dont know how he (alan jackson) keeps his composure while performing it, i can hardly keep mine listening to it. id post a link to it for those who havent heard it, but im needeing to get ready for work, cant imagine anyone hasnt heard that song. powerfull stuff.
