Where would you guys recommend buying a reman engine? My 2.0, while only having 85,000 miles, was neglected before I got it and is very low on power, low compression, and has some oil burning going on. Just looking for where a good quality, reasonable price reman. I don't have the time to pull and rebuild myself so I just want to pull and swap. I don't want a junkyard motor because it may be just as bad or worse. Jasper is kinda pricey and I have heard bad things about the engines from Advance.

Why not just have your local machine shop rebuild it? I know time is the issue here but you've already got a good block that just needs some work.

I want to be able to have a weekend or less turnaround. Prefer a same day.

why not just toss a low milage 2.5l in there from a 98+, but on a side note, heard a few things about jasper, if you have time you can always take your 2.0 to carquest and they can rebuild in in house(seemed pretty quick to, depends on your location 2),

so i say find a new 2.3 or 2.5 core motor(maybe $100) and send it into a machinest and have them go threw it and rebuild it

FWIW, my brother had all kinds of problems with a 302 he bought from Advance. Head gaskets were on backwards, valve springs were wrong, different, and soft, and a rod bolt wasn't tightened.

Not sure where the best place to locate a good running engine like that would be. I suppose if it had a warantee? But some warantees look good at first glance, but when it comes to the fine print, some can really screw you over. I would probably try a junk yard first to see what they had, that truck is 21-22 years old, is it worth the cost of a reman 2.0L engine?

A 2.5 or any Lima '95 or newer wouldn't swap over for him, there's no hole for the distributor in the '95+ blocks.

Not to mention 2.0's are carbed...so you would have a bunch more work swapping in a EFI motor.

Yup. I paid $600 for the truck and it runs pretty good, but it will need a complete rebuild or replace probably this year.

at the price of a rebuilt motor i would think about buying any old 500 dollar or less beater, drive it for 2-4 weeks on 30 day tags while i rebuilt my motor then sell it off for what i payed for it or more if i got a steal of a deal on it.

didn't know that, just figured if your gonna rebuild it, why not upgrade it while your at it, still get a 2.3 though, should be able to put a carb on it right?

wierd that ford did that, surpised they didn't do like the 4.2/5.0s and put the sensor in place of the distributor

I will be replacing my current engine with 220000 miles with a ford reman purchased from ford with a ford warranty $2,830 of course yours would be cheaper since it is not a 4.0L like mine.

To each his own but I say if you want LESS POTENTIAL head ache then go with a ford motor and warranty!!

I wouldn't pay much for a 2.0, rebuilt or not. I would upgrade to at least a 2.3.

I would have your engine checked out good before you pitch it, at its peak a 2.0 has 73hp.

Try Greenleaf. I have the site for the Dallas location below. They have others. Take a look at what they say about their warranty. I purchased a used 30k five speed auto from them with a warranty. It has been fine ever seince I installed it.

How much oil burning? Like are you adding a quart every week while using it for your daily commute. Or rather it burns a quart every 100 miles? The reason I ask is there are some anti-smoking drugs you can put into the oil.

Sounds like if you want to go "cheap" you can do a shade tree mechanic by simply honing out the cylinders, new rings, and new valve seals, you can do this with the motor in the truck.
